MISOOL ECO RESORT

A Private Island Resort in Indonesia

A Diving Paradise in Raja Ampat, Indonesia

Experience the tranquillity of Raja Ampat, Indonesia, while being surrounded by crystal-clear ocean views and stunning islands.

Misool Eco Resort lies just south of the equator in Raja Ampat, Indonesia, surrounded by thousands of uninhabited islands and one of the most pristine reef systems on Earth. It’s an exclusive dive resort and conservation centre fringed with powder-white beaches and pristine coral reefs. You’ll find Misool Private Island hidden deep in an archipelago of uninhabited islands, 165 km (105 miles) from the nearest port, and the nearest village is 20 km away by boat.  We are surrounded by the richest reefs in the world, at the very heart of marine biodiversity.

Located in remote Raja Ampat, Indonesia, our Misool resort is a true tropical hideaway, fringed with powder-white beaches and pristine coral reefs. With a maximum capacity of just 40 guests and a staff-to-guest ratio of 4 to 1, Misool offers exclusive adventure holidays and transformative experiences in pristine nature.

“Raja Ampat is considered ground zero by divers everywhere,” raved the New York Times in their feature piece about Misool: “To enter this other marine world, all that is required is a face mask.” Divers and snorkelers alike can expect to see brightly coloured tropical fish and coral, giant clams, and magnificent oceanic manta rays, all while exploring our 300,000-acre private Misool Marine Reserve. As big as all 5 boroughs of New York City combined, it teems with the kind of underwater life that most people have only seen in National Geographic specials or Finding Nemo.

ITINERARY PROGRAMS

Misool is a private island resort and conservation centre located in remote southern Raja Ampat, Indonesia.

You’ll find our island hidden deep in an archipelago of uninhabited islands, 165 km (105 miles) from the nearest port, and the nearest village is 20 km away by boat.  We are surrounded by the richest reefs in the world, at the very heart of marine biodiversity. There simply are no richer reefs on earth.

“There is greater biodiversity — that is to say, a larger number and greater diversity of fish, coral, and mollusks — on these reefs than anywhere on earth. A single football field-sized patch of Misool’s reefs has nearly five times the number of coral species as the entire Caribbean Sea.”

Dr. Mark Erdmann, marine biologist

Getting there: your journey to the heart of marine biodiversity

We recommend all guests transit through Jakarta, arriving the evening before the start of your stay at Misool. Transit through Bali is also possible, though the flights are less convenient.

We will meet you at the Sorong Airport and then bring you to our headquarters for a light breakfast and a cup of coffee while we load your checked baggage onto our transfer boat. This is also a good time to change into shorts and a t-shirt, so keep those in your carry-on baggage. When the boat is ready for departure, we’ll take you to the harbour, with departure around 09:00.

We’ll travel on our private speed boat, Merantau, from Sorong to Batbitim, our resort island. Merantau was custom built for us in 2018 and is equipped with 6 x 250 engines, indoor seating for 45 passengers, outdoor seating both fore and aft, toilet, and all safety equipment.

The speedboat transfer is about 4 hours, depending upon sea conditions. The first third is a scenic passage between the Papuan mainland and small islands of the Salawati group, fringed by mangroves. The second third of the journey is an open crossing over generally calm seas. During the final leg of the journey, we enter the breathtakingly beautiful island chain to which Batbitim belongs. We’ll cruise between sheer karst cliffs and innumerable small islands, often escorted by dolphins. About 30 minutes before we arrive at the resort, we’ll cross the border into our No-Take Zone.

Upon arrival at the island, our staff will take care of all your baggage whilst you enjoy a cool drink, receive a short welcome briefing and spot a baby shark or two in the shallow North Lagoon.
