DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN PEREIRA, COLOMBIA
Welcome to Colombia!
Arrive in Pereira, the heart of Colombia’s Coffee Triangle. This region is known for its breathtaking landscapes, rich coffee culture and vibrant biodiversity.
Upon arrival, you will be greeted and transferred to Sazagua, a boutique hotel offering a perfect blend of comfort and nature. Take some time to settle in and explore the surroundings, immersing yourself in the lush greenery of the region. In the evening, enjoy a delicious welcome dinner featuring local flavors, as you prepare for the birding adventure ahead.

DAY 2: EXPLORING THE BIODIVERSITY OF UKUMARI REGIONAL PARK
Begin the day early with a transfer to Ukumarí Natural Regional Park, a pristine Andean ecosystem known for its exceptional biodiversity.
This area, located near Los Nevados National Park, is home to a variety of endemic and rare bird species. Explore the misty cloud forests and lush riverbanks while searching for species like the Cauca Guan and the Torrent Duck.
After a full morning of birding, enjoy a hearty lunch before continuing to Tinamú Birding Reserve. Upon arrival, settle into the tranquil surroundings and prepare for an immersive birdwatching experience in one of the most renowned reserves in the region.
Optional: In the afternoon, take advantage of an optional visit to Finca La Romelia, a stunning orchid farm home to over 840 species of orchids and 216 species of birds. This picturesque farm provides a unique opportunity to learn about Colombia’s rich floral diversity while enjoying breathtaking mountain views. Wander through vibrant orchid displays, admire bonsai collections and take in the peaceful ambiance of this hidden gem before returning to Tinamú for the evening.

DAY 3: A BIRDING PARADISE AT TIMANU RESERVE
Spend the entire day exploring Tinamú Birding Reserve, a paradise for birdwatchers with over 230 recorded species. The reserve offers incredible opportunities for close-up photography at its well-maintained feeders, where hummingbirds, tanagers, and motmots are frequent visitors.
Walk along forest trails to spot elusive species like the Moustached Puffbird and Spectacled Owl. Take breaks to appreciate the diverse flora and fauna of the reserve.
Optional: In the afternoon, continue birding or opt for a visit to Hacienda Venecia for an insightful coffee tour, learning about Colombia’s world-famous coffee production.

DAY 4: CLOUD FOREST OF RIO BLANCO
Depart early for Rio Blanco Reserve, one of the world’s most famous birding locations, home to an astounding diversity of species.
The reserve is particularly known for its Antpitta feeding stations, offering a rare opportunity to see these normally elusive birds up close. With the help of expert local guides, search for the endemic Brown-banded Antpitta, Chestnut-crowned Antpitta, and the Masked Saltator.
Spend the morning exploring the reserve’s well-preserved Andean cloud forests, which provide habitat for many tanagers, parrots, and tapaculos.
After a fulfilling day of birding, transfer to Hacienda El Bosque for a relaxing evening in the heart of nature.

DAY 5: HIGHLAND BIRDING & RELAXATION AT TERMALES DEL RUIZ
Wake up in the serene setting of Hacienda El Bosque, an excellent site for high-altitude birding. The area is particularly known for the Crescent-faced Antpitta and Grey-breasted Mountain-Toucan. Take a morning birding walk through the lush forest, where you may also spot woodpeckers, flowerpiercers, and tanagers.
After a morning filled with incredible sightings, transfer to Termales del Ruiz, a high-altitude lodge featuring natural hot springs.
Spend the afternoon relaxing in the thermal waters, surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery, and enjoy a peaceful night at this unique location.

DAY 6: PARAMO BIRDING IN LOS NEVADOS NATIONAL PARK
Begin the day exploring the high-altitude páramo ecosystem of Los Nevados National Park, a surreal landscape of rolling grasslands and unique plant life. This environment is home to some of Colombia’s rarest high-Andean species, including the striking Andean Condor, the endemic Buffy Helmetcrest hummingbird, and the Golden-breasted Puffleg.
As you hike through the páramo, admire its stunning scenery and learn about the ecological importance of this fast-evolving ecosystem.
Enjoy a picnic-style lunch in the field before returning to Termales del Ruiz for an evening of relaxation.

DAY 7: SCENIC ANDEAN JOURNEY TO NIDO DEL CONDOR
Set off on a scenic 4X4 drive through the dramatic landscapes of the Central Andes, making your way toward El Nido del Cóndor.
As you ascend into remote mountainous terrain, witness the transition from lush forests to rugged cliffs. Upon arrival at the canyon’s edge, take a thrilling cable car ride across the gorge to reach the secluded eco-lodge. This luxurious glamping experience offers unparalleled views of the Andean mountains, where the elusive Andean Condor can often be seen soaring overhead.
Spend the evening soaking in the breathtaking surroundings and enjoying the tranquility of this extraordinary location.

DAY 8: NIDO DEL CONDOR – ANDES EXPEDITION
Today, embark on a guided hike to a privileged viewpoint overlooking a nesting site of the Andean Condor. This magnificent bird, one of the largest flying species in the world, can often be seen gliding effortlessly across the sky.
The hike takes you through pristine Andean forests, where you will also have opportunities to spot other local wildlife and learn about the unique flora of the region. Upon arrival at the observation point, take in the stunning mountain vistas and, with some luck, witness the condors in their natural habitat.
Return to the lodge for a well-earned rest and a final evening immersed in nature.

DAY 9: FAREWELL TO THE ANDES – DEPARTURE OR EXTEND YOUR COLOMBIA TRIP
After an unforgettable birding expedition through Colombia’s Central Andes, it’s time to say farewell.
Enjoy a final morning in the serene mountain setting before departing for Pereira. Along the journey, take in the last glimpses of Colombia’s stunning landscapes, reflecting on the incredible wildlife encounters and natural wonders you’ve experienced.
Transfer to Pereira Airport
Upon arrival at the airport, check in for your departure flight, marking the end of a truly remarkable adventure.

Jenn is a self-described bird-nerd, obsessed with wildlife who fell head over heels in love with Colombia during her first visit, a bird tour in the northern Caribbean part of the country.
Joining us in 2024, she’s been lending her skills honed as an award-winning travel writer and photographer, a dream job she’s been doing for over 12 years. Jenn has also worked in the travel industry with a destination marketing organization where she worked to promote her region, build itineraries and attract media.
In addition to helping leading trips, Jenn is primarily focused on building Canadian small group, niche and expert-led adventures.
She is incredibly excited to be heading back to Colombia alongside other keen birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts!
