This itinerary combines the diversity of São Paulo, the nature of Mamanguá, the charming town, which is also a World Heritage Site, of Paraty, as well as a taste of the energetic city of Rio de Janeiro.


All of these destinations are vastly diverse, however accessible within this itinerary without taking a domestic flight in Brazil, which is quite a feat, considering the vast size of this incredible country. Your journey starts in cosmopolitan São Paulo, the largest city in Latin America, teeming with 12 million residents. With a vibrant nightlife and an intense cultural experience, São Paulo also has a strong reputation for its excellent quality and variety of cuisine.

Next, you’ll head to Saco de Mamanguá, the only tropical fjord found in Brazil. With the most incredible views of stunning mountains and calm blue water, this is the perfect place to unplug for a couple of days. Onwards to the beautiful colonial city of Paraty, boasting UNESCO World Heritage status, which can be recognized by its countless natural and architectural charms. Walking through the Historic Center of Paraty is like entering another era. Finally, you’ll end your Brazilian Green Coast itinerary in the intoxicating city of Rio de Janeiro.

DAY 1:ARRIVE SÃO PAOLO

Upon arrival in São Paulo, meet your guide at the airport and be transferred to your hotel in a private vehicle. Enjoy the rest of the day at your own leisure.

*Suggested dinner at the Skye Bar & Restaurant at Unique Hotel (not included).

DAY 2: SÃO PAOLO TOUR

At the appropriate time, meet your guide at the hotel and depart on a private half day city tour (6h) passing by some of the main sites of the city such as Praça da Sé, Pateo do Collegio, Theatro Municipal, Mercado Municipal, Vila Madalena, Avenida Paulista, and Parque do Ibirapuera. The tour develops historical, cultural, social, and economic aspects, as well as curiosities about São Paulo.

Where to stop and where to have lunch (not included) is decided locally as the tour is flexible and can be customized according to the traveler’s profile and interests, and per the guide’s recommendations. Return to the hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at your own leisure.

Note: Most of the museums and cultural centers are closed on Mondays.

DAY 3: SÃO PAULO / PARATY MIRIM / SACO DO MAMANGUÁ

At the appropriate time, meet your guide at the hotel and private land transfer to Paraty Mirim (5-6 hours). Upon arrival, catch a local boat* to your accommodation at Saco do Mamanguá (45min).

*Note: the local boat departs from Paraty Mirim to Refúgio at 02:30 PM or 04:30 PM (if you are arriving at a different time, please consult us).

DAY 4: SACO DO MAMANGUÁ

One tour is included on each day (Day 4 & 5), please choose from the options below. Note that it is necessary to decide and book in advance.

Dinner is included at Refúgio do Mamanguá.

Canoe – 6 hours
After breakfast meet the guide at Refúgio do Mamanguá and paddle in Canadian canoes through the mangrove until a natural pool. After relaxing, paddle to the restaurant where a typical caiçara lunch will be served. Then, return also in canoes.
Included: local lunch, guide and insurance, and life jacket. Not included: drinks.

Trekking – 4 hours
After breakfast meet the guide at Refúgio do Mamanguá and take a motorboat (20min) towards Cruzeiro beach to begin the trekking (1h40–2h) way up to the Sugarloaf, passing inside the Atlantic Forest. Afterward, visit a beach to relax and have a typical caiçara lunch. Return is in the motorboat.
Included: local lunch, boat in/out, insurance and guide. Not included: drinks.

Kayak Tour – 6 hours
After breakfast meet the guide at Refúgio do Mamanguá and paddle in ocean kayaks into Saco do Mamanguá. Make stops along the way for swimming and enjoy the beaches. Then, return also in kayaks.

Included: lunchbox, guide, insurance and life jacket. Not included: drinks.

DAY 5: SACO DO MAMANGUÁ

One tour is included on each day (Day 4 & 5), please choose from the options below. Note that it is necessary to decide and book in advance.

Dinner is included at Refúgio do Mamanguá.

DAY 6: PARATY – BOAT TOUR

After breakfast, meet your guide at Refúgio do Mamanguá and leave on a private touring boat towards Paraty (5-6 hours). Make stops along the way on islands or remote beaches according to your preference (make sure to wear a swimsuit under your clothing and bring a towel).

Arrive in Paraty mid-afternoon and the guide will follow you to your accommodation. Rest of the day at your own leisure.

Included in the boat: coffee break; fruits; stand-up paddle; mask and snorkel are available for free use.

DAY 7: PARATY TOUR

After breakfast, meet your guide at the hotel and depart on a private historical walking tour of Paraty (2 hours). Beautiful colonial architecture, street design ahead of its time, exiled Portuguese royalty, and the dark past of the slave trade – these are just some of the ingredients that make Paraty history-rich and colourful from the past to the present day. Return to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at your own leisure, or feel free to include an optional tour (not included – please book in advance).

Stand Up Paddle – 2h: The protected flat waters of Paraty’s bay have perfect Stand up paddling conditions. After the safety instructions at Jabaquara beach, just outside the old town, we paddle around, visiting a mangrove area, and Itu Beach. Fruits and water are included.

Sea Kayaking Bay – 4h: If you want to get closer to the nature without the noise of a motorboat this is a great option to see wildlife and visit places like the mangroves, islands and beaches nearby. The views of the old town and the coastal mountain range behind Paraty are spectacular. No previous experience is required. We give paddling and safety instructions. Fruits and water are included.

Cooking Class – 3-4h: Join Richard and Yara, renowned Brazilian chef, Emmy winning PBS cooking show host and author, to prepare a refined Brazilian dinner with the best of Brazilian cuisine. The menus are from six regional and historical cuisines such as Minas Gerais, Bahia, Amazonas, Cerrado. Throughout time together Yara tells stories linking the different ingredients and a piece of Brazilian history, so that guests gain an idea of the culture of the country.

DAY 8: PARATY / RIO DE JANEIRO

At the appropriate time, meet your guide at the hotel and private land transfer towards your accommodation in Rio de Janeiro (5-6 hours). Upon arrival, check-in at the hotel and free night.

DAY 9: RIO DE JANEIRO TOUR OF CORCOVADO & SANTA TERESA & MORRINHO PROJECT

After breakfast, meet your guide at the hotel and depart on a private full-day tour (7-8 hours). Visit the Christ the Redeemer on top of Corcovado Mountain and then stroll around the charming neighbourhood of Santa Teresa. Stop for lunch nearby (not included) and continue to the Morrinho Project. Return to the hotel late afternoon and enjoy a free night at your own leisure.

Christ the Redeemer: The Christ the Redeemer is located at the Corcovado Mountain (710 meters), with a height of 38m, and considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Board on a centenarian eco-friendly electric train, which does not pollute and cuts through the well-preserved Atlantic Forest – part of Tijuca’s National Park. The ride takes about 20min (one way), while the speed uphill is 15 km/h and downhill is 12 km/h. The train has capacity for 345 passengers/hour. Upon reaching the top and at the foot of Cristo Redentor, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city.

Santa Teresa: Located in an old neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro, Santa Teresa seems to have stopped in time. Known to have historical buildings from 1750 and for the French architecture inspired by that time, it was where the old carioca aristocracy lived. It is indeed a very charming place where lots of local artists are living and exhibiting their arts

Note: Most art galleries and cultural spaces are closed on Mondays.

Morrinho Project: It is a social and cultural project based outside the Pereira da Silva favela (slum) in the Southern Zone of Rio de Janeiro. A Model of 450sqm made ​​of bricks and other recycled materials. With the aim of showing that favela life is multi-dimensional, and endeavours to communicate their own reality through film, plastic arts, theater, and music. Website: www.morrinho.org.br

Note: To get to the project, part of the path is made walking on uneven ground, besides having to go up and down several steps. Wear comfortable shoes.

DAY 10: RIO DE JANEIRO – SUGAR LOAF MOUNTAIN / DEPARTURE

After breakfast, check out and meet your guide at the hotel to depart on a private half-day tour to visit the Sugar Loaf (3-4 hours).

Be transferred straight to the airport in a private vehicle for your flight home, or to another part of Brazil or South America.
