This unique travel experience and photography workshop, is ideal for anyone who wants to learn the fundamentals of photography or improve their techniques in an inspirational setting. Morocco is a feast for all senses with its varied scenery. The mountains, desert and coast form a unique and colourful landscape while the medieval medinas, punctuated with souks are full of colours and aromas. With your camera in hand, discover the enchanting cities of Morocco, venture into rose-coloured kasbahs, and snap portraits of traditional Berber families in their mountain villages.

Finisterra has partnered with Langara College to bring you this amazing travel opportunity! Led by award winning photographer, Wayne Kaulbach, we’ll learn about and photograph Moroccan culture, landscape, architecture, and food. Take your travel photography to a higher level through one-on-one coaching with your instructor, group critiquing, and hands-on practice with Langara College instructor, Wayne Kaulbach. Prepare to be amazed! Photographers and non-photographers are welcome. Your experiences will provide excellent fodder for photography projects and unforgettable memories of Morocco.

Day 1 : ARRIVAL CASABLANCA
Welcome to Morocco! Arrival at Casablanca Mohamed V airport. Welcome and assistance by the local Moroccan guide. Direct transfer to the hotel in Casablanca.

Day 2: CASABLANCA TO ASILAH
Breakfast at the hotel. This morning you will meet with the tour guide and depart for the sightseeing of Casablanca, the business capital of Morocco. The city’s handsome Moorish buildings, which meld French-colonial design and traditional Moroccan style, are best admired in the downtown area. Visit of the outside of the awe-inspiring Hassan II Mosque as well as the United Nations Place and the residential area of Anfa before strolling along the Aïn Diab coast dotted with swimming pools and restaurants.
Day 03: Rabat / Chefchaouen (Travel time 5hrs)
Breakfast at the hotel.

Later on you will Direct transfer to Asilah, a fortified town in the northwest of the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Give your camera a workout as you explore its old town, or medina, is enclosed by well-preserved 15th-century ramparts and gates, built by colonial Portuguese. The medina is an art hub, known for its murals.

If lighting is right, you may catch a beautiful sunset.

Day 3: ASILAH TO TANGIER
Breakfast at the hotel. With cameras in hand this morning, you will have the chance to further explore the beautiful fishing town of Asilah. The town is considered today as a cultural center. Lunch will be on your own.

Later today you will transfer to nearby Tangier. Its blend of cultures and influences is unique in Morocco – for much of its history it wasn’t even governed by Morocco. Tangier’s cultural life buzzes.

Day 4: TANGIER TO TETOUAN TO CHEFCHAOUEN
Breakfast at the hotel. Make sure that your camera’s are charged. This morning depart to Tetouan, a jewel of a town in a striking location at the foot of the Rif Mountains, and just a few kilometres from the sea. Despite seeing relatively few foreign visitors, there’s an air of authenticity here that adds great value to a visit. The ancient medina, a Unesco World Heritage site, looks like it has not changed in several centuries. The city is affectionately called ‘the daughter of Granada’ by the locals.

Explore the charming city with your guide and camera in hand. The Medina is one of the most fascinating and
absorbing in the whole of Morocco, with its shaded alleyways and mosques.

In the afternoon, you will continue to Chefchaouen, the “Blue City”. Photographers go crazy for this colourful city.

Day 6: CHEFCHAOUEN CITY TOUR
Breakfast at the hotel. Chefchaouen is one of the prettiest towns in Morocco, an artsy, blue-washed mountain village that feels like its own world. The old medina is a delight of Moroccan and Andalusian influence with red-tiled roofs, bright-blue buildings and narrow lanes converging on busy Plaza Uta El Hammam and its restored kasbah.

Stroll the streets this morning with a local guide. Enjoy a moment of relaxation in «Ras El Maa» the source of water one of the prettiest places in Chechaouen.

Day 7: CHEFCHAOUEN – Optional Excursion to Akchour Waterfalls
Breakfast at the hotel. Free day in Chefchaouen to explore independently or for the more adventurous, depart for a hike to a series of waterfalls at Akchour. This area is amazing for nature lovers consisting of a lower waterfall and a much higher upper one as well as a handful of other modest waterfalls and cascades sharing the same stream as the main waterfalls. Also visit of the what is referred to as the ‘Bridge of God’. This optional excusion should only be done with those that are comfortable hiking for several hours.

Day 8: CHEFCHAOUEN TO MEKNES – VOLUBILIS TO FEZ
This morning depart to Meknes and visit of this city known as “the Moroccan Versailles” which was founded at the end of the 17th Century by Moulay Ismail. Quieter and smaller than its grand neighbour Fez, Meknes feels rather overshadowed and receives fewer visitors than it should. It’s more laid-back with less hassle, yet still has all the winding narrow medina streets and grand buildings that it warrants as an imperial city and one-time home of the Moroccan sultanate. The sightseeing of Meknes will include Bab Mansour, the best preserved gate in Morocco, Hari Souani and the old medina. Independent lunch.

Continuation to Fes via the sacred town of Moulay Idriss Ist. And the Roman ruins of Volubilis. Sitting in the middle of a fertile plain, the ruined Roman city of Volubilis is the best-preserved archaeological site in Morocco. Its most amazing features are its many beautiful mosaics preserved in situ.

Continue to Fez later in the day.

Day 9: FEZ CITY TOUR
Breakfast at the hotel. The whole day is devoted to the sightseeing of Fez; the most ancient cultural and spiritual city of Morocco. In its heyday, Fez attracted scholars and philosophers, mathematicians and lawyers, astronomers and theologians. Craftsmen built them houses and palaces, kings endowed mosques and medersas (religious schools), and merchants offered exotic wares from the silk roads and sub-Saharan trade routes.

Visit of the medieval medina, the Medersas, the Karaouine Mosque and the famous Nejjarine fountain. Independent lunch.

Continuation of the visit through the old medina where the travellers will see different craftsmen still operating in the old oriental tradition.

Day 11: Fez to Rabat
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Rabat, the white imperial city with palm-lined streets. Independent lunch. This afternoon you’ll have a tour of the hightlights of the administrative capital of Morocco including the Hassan Tower, the splendid Mohamed V Mausoleum and the Kasbah of Oudayas.

Along with his wife Michelle Fleming, they have owned and operated Skylight Images, a multi-award winning photographic service specializing in natural light portraiture, in Vancouver since 1995. Along with teaching travel and street photography through Langara’s Continuing Studies program for seven years, Wayne is also an ongoing contributor to Photo Life Magazine and a passionate travel and street photographer. Langara’s India Photography Tour in 2017 was the most recent tour led by Wayne. Having travelled extensively around the world, Wayne is eager to continue to share his knowledge along with his love of travel and street photography.
