A total solar eclipse will occur on December 14, 2020, and can best be seen from the Lake Region of Chile and Argentina. We’ve designed this itinerary to best showcase some of the highlights of this amazing country and also incorporate the total solar eclipse viewing. Diverse landscapes unfurl over a 4300km stretch: parched dunes, fertile valleys, volcanoes, ancient forests, clear rivers, massive glaciers and fjords. A country of geographical extremes, Chile’s diversity is reflected both in its people and its gastronomy, which encompasses the tropical fruit of the far north as well as king crab from southern Patagonia. Above all, visitors travel to Chile for its remote and shockingly gorgeous landscapes.

This is a private tour based on 2 participants however if there are more than 2 of you travelling together, the price will decrease. This 11 day Chile Solar Eclipse tour is for those interested in exploring this incredibly diverse country as well as experiencing this once in a lifetime occurrence. This itinerary can be customized to best suit your travel needs.

Day 1: Arrival Santiago

Day 2: SANTIAGO – VALPARAISO – VIÑA DEL MAR – CASABLANCA VALLEY
Private Casablanca Valley & Valparaiso / Viña del Mar Tour (8 Hours)

Start the trip visiting Valparaiso and Viña del Mar. Viña del Mar, Valparaíso is one of the main ports of Chile proclaimed a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2003. We will walk through its beautiful streets and contemplate from its balconies the wonderful bay and hills full of colours, which have inspired famous painters, architects, draftsmen, musicians and poets. We will visit Cerro Alegre, the Sotomayor Square, where the monument to Iquique Heroes is and visit the port.

Then we continue to Viña del Mar, also known as “Ciudad Jardín” (Garden City) stands out for the beauty of its palaces, the famous flower clock and its extensive coast with 8 kilometers of beaches, walks and rockeries.

After visiting Viña del Mar we will continue to Casablanca Valley located one hour west from Santiago we find this precious valley, sitting between the coastal mountains and the Pacific Ocean in the valleys of Chile’s central área, with more than twenty vineyards specialized in Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. We invite you to travel in the beautiful wine route where you can visit some of the most prestigious vineyards and learn about the wine production and enjoy the best wines.

Day 3: SANTIAGO – CALAMA – SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA
Private transfer from hotel in Santiago to Santiago Airport.

2020 Eclipse Program – San Pedro 3 nights :
Flight to Calama (not included on price). Arrival to Calama and private transfer from Calama Airport to San Pedro de Atacama (only driver service – 1:30 minutes
approx). Check in.

In the afternoon we will have a half day Moon & Death Valley Excursion (15:00 – 19:00 aprox): In the evening, one of the most expected moments is the sunset, and the best place to wait for it is the “Cordillera de la Sal” with its valleys, which are called Valle de Marte (Mars Valley) and Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley), which are saline and clayed shapes, product of mineralogical folds that occurred hundred of millions years ago, originating little mountains with strange and capricious shapes, that sunset turns them into a moon landscape scene. Includes english speaking guide and entrance fee. We will enjoy this moment with a Cheese & Wine included. Return to San Pedro. Lunch & Dinner not included.

Day 4: SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA
Full day Excursion to Atacama Salt Flat, Altiplanics Lagoons Miscanti & Meñiques and Socaire (8:00 – 16:00 aprox). These lagoons are located at 4.500 m. above the sea level. They are of great beauty. In their landscapes varied shades of colours can be appreciated, also, their flora and fauna is singular, since they exist only in
these protected areas. Visit to Toconao and Socaire villages.

Includes lunch at Socaire. Return to San Pedro. Dinner not included.

At night we will visit a touristic observatory (SPACE) where we will have the experience to observe through telescopes. Tour in observatory is not private.

Day 5: SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA
Full day Excursion to Geysers of Tatio (5:00 AM – 12:00 aprox). Exploration to the highest geothermic area, located at 4.300 mts. above the sea level in the Andean
Range. The geothermic fields have their origins in the magma. The waters from The Andes thaws filtrate between crust cracks going down to deep hot zones, finally water reaches the magma raising as steam and boiling water, forming the steam columns and springs.

Includes breakfast at geysers. Return to San Pedro. Lunch & Dinner not included.

Day 6: SAN PEDRO – CALAMA – PUERTO MONTT – PUERTO VARAS
Private transfer from San Pedro de Atacama to Calama Airport (only driver service – 1:30 minutes aprox).

Flight to Puerto Montt with stop in Santiago (not included in price). Lunch not included.

Lake District 5 nights
Arrival to Puerto Montt and private transfer from Puerto Montt Airport to Puerto Varas (45 minutes aprox) with our local guide. Check in. Dinner not included.

Day 7: PUERTO VARAS
Full day Excursion Petrohué Waterfalls & Osorno Volcano.
We begin our tour from Puerto Varas city, “The City of Roses” going to Osorno Volcano, by the shore of Llanquihue lake. We’ll enjoy the amazing landscape with the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes, until we get to Ensenada where the road start to ascend until arrive to the Osorno Volcano Mountain and Ski Centre, located at 1240 mts of altitude. Here you will have time to take pictures, enjoy the landscape and admire the view of the top of the volcanoes with the glaciers of eternal snow.

As an option, you can go to the restaurant to take a cup of coffee or a delicious hot chocolate, or to take the chairlift to go up (not included, payment at the place).

Later we will go to Petrohue at Vicente Perez Rosales National Park, on a road by the Llanquihue lake shore, enjoying the landscape and magnificent view of the Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes until we get to Petrohue located near by “Todos los Santos Lake”, here we will take a soft walk on the trails surrounded by an evergreen forest. After pay an entrance (included), once inside the park we will appreciate one of the most beautiful places of this region, the “Petrohue River Falls”, a place where the Petrohue River hit large masses of crystallized lava formed with smaller rocks united by a glassy material that stands out, an unmissable place.

Day 8: CHILOE ISLAND VISIT
Full day Cultural Excursion to Chiloé Island.
This trip by a coastal road links two important cities of the island. The volcanoes and mountains at the other side of the sea, makes hard to stop staring at the horizon and start to find all the small villages and their churches, Quemchi, Colo, Tenaun, San Juan y Dalcahue. Each one of it has special characteristics and location at the countryside or close to the sea. Is impressive to know that even after 100 or 200 years, it`s still firm and celebrating mass and is where the local people gather and keep their traditions, many of it has its own cemetery, with colourful flowers and it`s worth to see. The markets with the local food, the ferry boat trips and to see the people doing their usual activities is an unforgettable experience.

Day 9: SAN MARTIN DE LOS ANDES
Full day transfer from Puerto Varas to San Martín de Los Andes.
We begin our trip, connecting the Panamericana route until Frutillar and then Puerto Octay. Over the next 80 km. we will pass through the Rupanco property where the agricultural and cattle activities offer us a vision of the richness and fertility of these lands. Bordering Puyehue lake shore, surrounded by Temperate Rain Forest, lakes, volcanoes, valleys, rivers and waterfalls allow us to accede to Cardenal Samore border, where we´ll proceed with the migratory steps at the custom. This route integrates the Puyehue National Park in Chile and Nahuel Huapi National Park in Argentina and takes us to the highest point of the Andes Mountains range to 1321 mts. above sea level.

The beauty of the lakes and the transition between the Valdivian rain forest to the steppe, o er us a natural scenery where colours and fauna changes. A few miles later the 7 lakes road begins, walking the Drafty, Espejo, Escondido, Villarino, Falkner , Hermoso and Machonico lakes . Each attraction has a unique landscape, surrounded by olive and
lush forests.

Once in San Martin de los Andes, on the shore of Lake Lacar, passengers can explore the city and the main street.

Note regarding hotels during the Eclipse days: In areas close to the eclipse track, where there is a very high demand for accommodation, we try to include accommodation with the key requirements being cleanliness, safety, comfort and a good location.

Day 10: SAN MARTIN DE LOS ANDES – ECLIPSE DAY
Full day vehicle and guide for the Eclipse Day. Eclipse view point at Piedra del Águila. The location has been chosen because of the very promising weather
prospects. The exact observation point will be subject to confirmation by the local authorities. Picnic lunch included.

Day 11: DEPARTURE DAY
Transfer from San Martín de los Andes to Bariloche Airport with our local guide. A special gift will be given to all passengers.
