Laura Harris Painting Retreat Tuscany
Join the wonderfully talented artist, Laura Harris, for a heavenly week of creative, cultural, and epicurean experiences in Lucca, Italy.
Our home base will be at a beautiful, 17th Century estate, set amongst the hills and olive groves of Northern Tuscany. Lucca is known as the hidden gem of Tuscany with city walls that keep out most of the cars, it has a notable, chilled-out vibe with a palette of warm yellows, rich turquoise, and deep emeralds – the perfect, inspiring backdrop for our creative getaway. We’ll throw some paint around, lounge amongst olive trees and grapevines, gather and share, explore treasured places, and oh my, we’ll eat!
We are thrilled to be working with our dear friend – the incomparable, most generous, and lovely Rosanna Passione. Day 1 – Arrival in Pisa, Tuscany (Italy)
Welcome to Tuscany we are excited to spend the week with you at Villa Boccella.
A truly magical place. This 17th Century Tuscan estate, is set amongst the hills and olive groves of Northern Tuscany. It is very well situated, 10km from the walled, medieval city of Lucca. Authentic Tuscan charm is coupled with a feeling of it being your own home from the moment you walk through the front door. Villa Boccella is a very fine example of local architecture with beautifully laid out gardens. The estate’s olive grove produces its own fine quality cold-pressed oil, seasonal fruit, and vegetables, and fresh eggs when the hens are laying.
Tonight we will have a chance to get to know each other as we dine together as a group.

Day 2 – Painting AM & Cooking Class with Rosanna
After a delicious breakfast, we head to the studio for the first day of painting. Laura Harris will chat about her painting process and help get everyone set up in the studio.
In the afternoon, we meet with Rosanna to learn about Tuscan cuisine… hands-on. Rosanna is an incredible cook that aims to nourish the body and the soul. She will teach us a couple of her favourite recipes that we will prepare together. Of course, after all of your hard work, we share a table and dine on what we made.
Day 3 – Painting AM & Lucca Tour
We spend another morning in the studio letting our creativity pour onto our canvases. During your studio time, you will have the chance to ask questions or advice from Laura Harris.
In the afternoon we will head to the nearby town of Lucca where we’ll meet our local guide for a short guided tour. Originally this city was founded by the Etruscans and was then a Roman colony around 180 BC. During the Roman era, Lucca served as an important meeting place for Julius Caesar and Crassus. In later years, the city was an independent republic for nearly 500 years as part of feudal Italy. During the 19th century, Lucca was conquered by Napoleon, and it finally became part of Unified Italy in 1860.
The historical centre of Lucca is enveloped by thick walls upon which you can stroll or ride bikes.
This evening you are free to explore, dine, and enjoy beautiful Lucca at your own pace. This evening you may have the opportunity to see a Puccini Classical Concert in Lucca.

After a delicious breakfast, we leave the studio behind as we head out to explore a couple of nearby towns and the beautiful Garfagnana region near the Apuan Alps.
Today we’ll visit the famous Devil’s Bridge, Barga, and Castiglione di Garfagnana with our local guide.
“Land of wolves and bandits. Valley of the beauty and the good.”
This is how two famous Italian poets, Ludovico Ariosto and Giovanni Pascoli respectively, described the Garfagnana.
This evening is free for you to enjoy on your own either in the nearby village, or back in Lucca.

Day 6 – Painting AM & Wineries
Feeling inspired by Tuscany, we head back to the studio for a morning of painting. This morning is yours to put the finishing touches on your creations.
You can’t visit Tuscany without visiting a winery so this afternoon we will head to one of the outstanding nearby wineries to sample wine and regional cuisine. In the hills just outside of the city center of Lucca, you will find several vineyards with their own special signature productions: Rosso DOC, Bianco DOC wine, and vin santo, as well as a delicious DOP extra virgin olive oil.
- Meals: B/L/-
Day 7 – Free Day
This morning we prepare our paintings to bring home. The balance of the day is yours to explore Lucca, shop, relax, visit the beach, or do whatever you feel the urge to do.
Today you may choose to visit the beautiful coast of Viareggio. Here you’d be able to stroll, snack, sip, and potentially soak in the Ligurian sea.
This evening we will all share and dine together along with Laura and Rosanna. We’ll reflect on our gorgeous time together.

Inspired, connected, generous and intuitive, Laura Harris exemplifies and champions the crafting of a creative life.
Laura has inspired countless people to rewrite their stories and honour the creative being that resides deep in their soul. Her paintings are described as beautifully imperfect, and have the ability to stir powerful emotions, speaking to an inner voice often ignored. Often large in scale with strikingly bold colours and texture, each piece offers discovery. Her process is rooted in memory and imagination, and her emotions are palpable. When she’s at work, Harris becomes utterly engrossed in her practice. It’s a fully physical task with music turned up loud and paint flying. Laura applies the same love and abandons to all other areas of her life. – Laura Harris Artist
