LAURA HARRIS PAINTING HOLIDAY IN PUGLIA
Join Canadian artist, Laura Harris, for a heavenly week of creative, cultural, and epicurean experiences in beautiful Puglia, Italy.
During this painting vacation, we’ll paint in the mornings under Laura’s guidance and spend our afternoons experiencing Puglia’s authentic villages, stunning landscapes, amazing cuisine, authentic villages, and wonderful year-round sunny weather. With whitewashed buildings, secret castles, crystalline Mediterranean Sea, and a slow approach to life, you will surely be enchanted by this gorgeous slice of Italy.
For this gloriously indulgent week, we’ve also partnered with the incredibly talented chef Julie Marr and her amazing partner Francesco Creanza, a Puglia native, of Everyone at the Table. This dynamic duo will take us to some of their favourite haunts in Puglia and share their love of the region and passion for food with us. We love their approach to life and their philosophy of sharing time, food, and stories around a table where everyone is welcome.
Inspired, connected, generous and intuitive, Laura Harris has motivated countless people to rewrite their stories and honour their creative calling. Offered to beginners and non-beginners alike, Laura will share her unique approach to painting, with a focus on manifesting inspiration and personal expression.

Day 1 – Arrival in Brindisi, Puglia (Italy)
Welcome to Puglia!
Today, you will be met at the Brindisi airport and transferred to our home for the next week at Masseria Ayroldi. The property is an ancient Apulian farm with 16th century Trulli that has been converted to a gorgeous villa. Trulli are fairytale-like cylindrical, whitewashed buildings with grey conical roofs tapering out to a point or sphere, often adorned with painted symbols, and are unique to Puglia.
Tonight we will have a chance to get to know each other as we dine together as a group.
- Meals included: Dinner
Day 2 – Painting AM & Visit to Ceglie Messapica
After a delicious breakfast, we head to the studio for the first day of painting. Laura Harris will chat about her painting process and help get everyone set up in the studio.
After a morning in the studio, we meet with Julie and Francesco who will accompany us to the charming town of Ceglie Messapica. They will introduce us to the picturesque town and join us for a delicious lunch of regional delights. There will be time to stroll through the historical center in the afternoon before returning to our Masseria.
- Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch
Day 3 – Painting AM & Cooking Class
We spend another morning in the studio letting our creativity pour onto our canvases. During your studio time, you will have the chance to ask questions or advice from Laura Harris.
In the afternoon we will head to the village of Oria, the home of Julie and Francesco, for a cooking class. Here you will have the opportunity to learn about Apulian ingredients and local cooking techniques from these two passionate individuals. Of course after all of your hard work, we share a table and dine on what we made.
This afternoon you’ll have the chance to dip your toes or plunge right into the Ionian Sea.
- Meals included: Breakfast & Lunch
Day 4 – Painting AM & Free Afternoon
After breakfast, head to the studio feeling inspired. Embrace the creative flow.
This afternoon is free for you to do whatever you’d like.

Day 5 – Full Day Exploring Puglia
Today we leave the studio behind as we head out with Julie & Francesco to explore beautiful Puglia! First, we travel to Altamura which is famous for its amazing bread – Pane di Altamura. Here we visit local artisans such as bread makers, cheesemakers, and other artisans. Surrounded by delicious food, we enjoy a meal together at one of our hosts’ favourite Osterias.
After enjoying a scrumptious meal we continue to 2019’s European Capital of Culture, Matera. Famous for its extensive cave-dwelling district called the Sassi, Matera will surely impress visitors. Here we wander the narrow streets and explore the historical center.
Exploring will work up an appetite so we will have a light dinner together in Matera before returning to our Masseria.
- Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 6 – Painting AM & Martina Franca
Feeling inspired by Puglia, we head back to the studio for a morning of painting. This morning is yours to put the finishing touches on your creations.
Later in the afternoon, we will visit the picturesque nearby town of Martina Franca. This charming 10th-century town is known for its stark white painted houses, amazing winding alleys, and century’s old rococo and baroque buildings that stand gracefully until today. Soak in the sunset before we dine together.
- Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Day 7 – Free Day
This morning we prepare our paintings to bring home. The balance of the day is yours to explore, shop, relax, or do whatever you feel the urge to do.

Passionate Canadain Painter
Laura Harris – Artist
Inspired, connected, generous and intuitive, Laura Harris exemplifies and champions the crafting of a creative life. Laura has inspired countless people to rewrite their stories and honour the creative being that resides deep in their soul. Her paintings are described as beautifully imperfect, and have the ability to stir powerful emotions, speaking to an inner voice often ignored. Often large in scale with strikingly bold colours and texture, each piece offers discovery. Her process is rooted in memory and imagination, and her emotions are palpable. When she’s at work, Harris becomes utterly engrossed in her practice. It’s a fully physical task with music turned up loud and paint flying. Laura applies the same love and abandons to all other areas of her life.
“I try and create what I ache for. Painting for me is not work, it’s an essential part of living.”
Harris’ is a positive oeuvre, but there are contrasts in texture and hue that suggest the opposition of forces. Exuberant, sensual, and often surprising, Laura’s images are known and prized for their irresistible energy. Her relationship with light has been compared to that of Turner. As a young child, the Canadian artist learned drawing techniques from her father, who preferred realism but encouraged freedom of expression. Laura currently lives and works in Victoria, BC where her family has roots run generations deep. Her work is exhibited in galleries across Canada and collected worldwide. Corporate clients include Mercedes Benz, The Ritz Carlton, The Keg, and Canaccord.
